Present: Shannon Vanbuskirk, Ardith Vanburkirk,
The “Tourism Tattler”, a newsletter put out by Destination Southwest Nova, had no mention of Shelburne County in their recent article of the Birding Festival. Allan stated that in speaking with Lynne Perry, Lynne stated that it would be recopied with an agenda for the events and mention of Shelburne.
The paperwork for the JCP will soon be started by
Dianne stated she would be attending a meeting on February 5th to discuss tourism in the Barrington area. They are not that receptive to the idea of a Tourism Co-Coordinator. An idea was given by Dianne that there was no need to spend all that money out when they could save a lot of money by employing the VIC managers in the area for an additional 6 months a year. And the units could work together that way. Ardith suggested that $100,000 of the $400,000 Team Shelburne was given to help with the up keep of the Youth Centre, could be put in the fund for a co-coordinator. Just keep in mind that the money would be filtered down from SWSDA, and that we may not have control of the money. Lydia stated that the downfall of having the money filter down from SWSDA is that the job would have higher criteria, (degrees, etc.) and that some people that have worked in the industry for a while and know the area the best, may not qualify, even though they may have the experience.
Allan stated we would be hosting a fam. tour the end of May, or the first of June. There was discussion on whether we wanted the tour to be 3 days/2nights or less, who we should invite, etc. Shannon stated the transportation is the most expensive part of the tour. CJ’s did the transportation last year, for a reduced price. Allan is going to look after the pricing for the buses. The budget for the tour is projected to be $5000.00
The museums will be open June 1st. The
committee
for the tour is Dianne Smith, Shannon VanBuskirk,
The next meeting will be March 1, 2007, at Enterprise
Square.
