DISCOVER SHELBURNE
COUNTY
Minutes
June, 2007
Present: Shannon Van Buskirk, Diane Smith, Pat Dewar, Howard Roszel,
Allan Nelson, Elizabeth Rhuland
Howard made a motion to approve the minutes of the last
meeting. Elizabeth
seconded. Motion carried.
Shannon presented the treasurers report and talked
about all
the bills which needed to be paid to Discover
Shelburne County
and by Discover
Shelburne County.
It was discussed that a detailed report of the bird festival should be
presented to the committee so everyone could see what money in the bank
belonged to which sub committee. It was agreed that at the next meeting
that a report
would be given which clarified the expense and income of all activity
with
DSCTA.
A motion to accept the report was moved by Elizabeth and seconded by Howard.
Provincial
FAM Tour
The provincial Fam tour came through Shelburne County
and had lunch on May 29. Several business participated the goodie bag
given to
each VIC participant in the tour. The tour, as it is every year was
very rushed
and many think another day should be added to it.
Destination South West
Nova
Doug Fawthroup thanked DSCTA for having him at the
May
meeting and offered to come back and talk some more about the issues
which
concern Shelburne
County.
Allan attended the DSWN AGM and became a one of
the 15 board
members. He has attended one meeting already.
Lights Along the Shore
Festival
Not much was done last year by Shelburne County.
Suggestions for this year included a speaker at the Seal Island
Lighthouse; It
would be great opportunity to push our lighthouse brochure; Sandy Point
Lighthouse should have an event, as they do every year. The festival
takes place September
14, 15 and 16. No one volunteered to head a committee for the festival.
VIC Training.
On June 15 there will be a trade
show where VIC staff are
being trained at the Mountain Gap Inn. Exhibitors pay $30 for a booth
to
promote their tourism product or service. It was suggested that DSCTA
do
something. No one volunteered their time to do the show.
JCP
The Chamber submitted a JCP to hire a
tourism coordinator.
It was initially approved but has since been side lined with the
restructuring
of Service Canada. It was suggested by Service Canada for DSCTA to re
submit
the same JCP and have the majority of the work be for completion of the
Tourism
Destination Tour Workbook. Annette Hudson is in line for the job, as
the person
the applicant wants to hire needs to be determined before the money is
approved.
Diane moved that the application be submitted by
Allan to
HRDC for a JCP which includes completion of the Tourism Destination
Work and
other jobs described by DSCTA.. Howard seconded the motion.
Tall Ships
A letter was sent to DSCTA asking
for sponsorship of Tall
Ships, with different levels of sponsorship. Every agreed that it would
be
difficult to sponsor such an event without supporting all events which
go on in
the County. So it was respectfully declined.
Meeting Adjourned at 5:30pm.
