in the World!

November 2010

Experience Nova Scotia at it's best in Shelburne County! Start your scenic coastal destination in the Lobster Capital of Canada!

Nothing you've heard about our magnificent oceanside environment compares to actually being here and seeing it for yourself.  From our silver sand beaches to our rugged and rocky coastline dotted with our many lighthouses, from our working waterfront fishery to our serene lakes and rivers.  Many who visit Shelburne County come back again, some to make their homes here.  Our secret to hospitality....it's in our nature!

The Lighthouse Route journeys through an unforgettable landscape of coastal beauty and historic charm that has captured the hearts and minds of travelers for generations.
In June, the Shelburne County Lobster Festival gets under full swing. July is full of events featuring the annual Founders' Days , Women's Harmony Bazaar a festival of Women and Song, plus Canada Day celebrations in Clarks Harbour and Lockeport, regattas and sail races,  the waterfront Parade of Lights. In August, Shelburne County is host to two exhibitions plus the popular  Lockeport Sea Derby, and the Shag Harbour UFO Incident Festival.
September features our very own
Whirligig Festival and Lights Along the Shore, which celebrates our many Lighthouses along the South Shore.  All year long watch our events page for community breakfasts and suppers, plus live music & theatre at the Osprey Arts Centre all year long.

About two hours from Halifax, the area features many pristine beaches, fresh water rivers, woodlands and ocean vistas. It is rich in history and alive with arts and culture.

Here you can find wonderful places to stay, activities , including kayaking, boating, guided walking tours, museums, shopping & dining. Nearby there are terrific birding spots, lighthouses and beaches
